My True-Love Hath My Heart

My True Love hath my heart, and I have his, By just exchange one to the other given: I hold his dear, and mine he cannot miss, There never was a better bargain driven: My true love hath my heart, and I have his.

My heart in me keeps him and me in one: My heart in him his thoughts and senses guides: He loves my heart, for once it was his own; I cherish him because in me it bides: My true love hath my heart, and I have his.
~Sir Philip Sidney~

Friends

Friends have a wonderful way of putting others at ease, Friends say and do the little things that comfort and will please. Friends have a special warmth they're quick to understand. Friends are always ready to lend a helping hand. You make the world a better place and happier by far, Because there are few people as wonderful as you are.

Special Friends

You're the friend who makes me laugh, when things aren't going right. You're the one who listens to me gab, till late hours of the night. You're the friend I can pick on, when I feel lost and hopeless, you're the friend who turns on the light. You're the one when I lose my grip, who tells me to hold on tight. I know we'll meet again face to face. You're the friend who makes it easy to keep the day in sight.

Number One Dad

Who gives me love and guidance? Who shows me wrong from right? Who's there when I need confidence? Who tucks me in at night?
He's someone always on my side. At times my biggest fan. His love he never lets hide. He's really quite a man.
But that's just half the story. The rest sure makes me glad. 'Cause this guy's much more you see, He's number one - My Dad!

Living

To touch the cup with eager lips and taste, not drain it;

To woo and tempt and court a bliss - and not attain it;

To fondle and caress a joy, yet hold it lightly, Lest it become necessity and cling too tightly;

To watch the sun set in the west without regretting it;

To hail it's advent in the east - the night forgetting;

To smother care in happiness and grief and in laughter;

To hold the present close - not questioning hereafter;

To have enough to share - to know the joy of giving;

To thrill with all the sweets of life - is living.

My Luve's Like a Red, Red Rose

O My Luve's like a red, red rose, that's newly sprung in June: O My Luve's like the melodies That's sweetly played in tune!

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass, So deep in love am I; And I will luve thee still, my dear, Till a' the seas going dry

Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear, And the rocks melt wi' the sun; I will luve thee still, my dear, While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only Luve, And fare the weel a while! And I will come again, my Luve, Though it were ten thousand mile.

Sonnet

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways, I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of Being and ideal Grace. I love thee to the level of everyday's Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight. I love thee freely, as men strive for Right; I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise. I love thee with the passion put to use In my old grief's, and with my childhood's faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints, - I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life! - and if God choose, I shall love thee better after death.
~Elizabeth Barrett Browning~

I Want to be Your Friend

I want to be your friend for ever and ever, When the hills are flat and the rivers are all dry, When the trees blossom in winter and the snow falls in summer, when heaven and earth mix - not till then will I part from you.
~ The Yuch-Fu ~

A Smile

Let others cheer the winning man, There's one I hold worthwhile; 'Tis he who does the best he can, Then loses with a smile. Beaten he is, but not to stay Down with the rank and file; That man will win some other day, Who loses with a smile.

How To Be Happy

Are you almost disgusted with life, little man? I'll tell you a wonderful trick That will bring you contentment, if anything can, Do something for somebody, quick!

Are you awfully tired with play, little girl? Wearied, discouraged and sick I'll tell you the loveliest game in the world, Do something for somebody, quick!

Though it rains, like the rain of the flood, little man, And the clouds are forbidding and thick, You can make the sun shine in your soul, little man, Do something for somebody, quick!

Though the stars are like brass overhead, little girl, And the walks like a well-heated brick, And our earthy affairs in a terrible whirl, Do something for somebody, quick!

Footprints

One night a man had a dream, He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; One belonged to him, the other belonged to the LORD.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life, there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest times of his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it. "LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."

The LORD replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

Only One Mother

Millions of stars in the heavens above, Only one mother to cherish and love, Thousands and thousands of flowers and trees, Hundreds and hundreds of mountains and seas, Everything multiplied over and over Robins and butterflies, bees in the clover. Many good friends to think the world of, but only one mother to cherish and love.

A Love of My Own

I would rather have someone to love me, A Spirit my heart could embrace Than to have all the gold in the mountains; Such treasures cannot take the place Of a love which would always be faithful, A someone who really would care, Who'd be a part of my joys and my sorrows, My secrets and struggles to share

I wish I had someone to love me, A heart to whom love I could give, For then I would welcome tomorrow As love offers reason to live. I need to have someone to love me, A someone whom I could love, too. Out of all of the world's lonely people, Could my special someone -be you?

The Twenty-third Psalm

The Lord is my shepherd: I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters, He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: For though art with me: thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou annointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Will You Love Me When I'm Old?

Life's morn will soon be waning, And it's evening bells be tolled. But my heart shall know no sadness, If you'll love me when I'm old.

Down the stream of life together We are sailing side by side, Hoping some bright day to anchor Safe beyond the surging tide. Today our sky is cloudless, But the night may clouds unfold; But, though storms may gather round us, I know you'll love me when I'm old.

The Guy In The Glass

When you get what you want in your struggle for self
And the world makes you "King" for a day
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself
And see what the guy has to say

For it isn't your father, or mother, or wife
Whose judgment upon you must pass
The follow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the guy staring back from the glass

He's the fellow to please - never mind all the rest
For Hess with you clear to the end
And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult task
if the guy in the glass is your friend

You may be like Jack Horner and "chisel" a plum
And think you're a wonderful guy
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look him straight in the eye

You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you've cheated the guy in the glass

Grandmothers Are Mothers Who Are Grand

Grandmothers are mothers who are grand,
Restoring the sense that our most precious things
Are those that do not change much over time.
No love of childhood is more sublime,
Demanding little, giving much on demand,
More inclined than most to grant the wings
On which we fly off to enchanted lands.
Though grandmothers must sometimes serve as mothers,
Helping out, or maybe taking over,
Each has all the patience wisdom brings,
Remembering our passions more than others,
Singing childish songs we long remember.

A Policeman's Prayer

Lord, I ask for courage;
Courage to face and conquer my own fears...
Courage to take me where others will not go.
I ask for strength;
Strength of body to protect others...
Strength of spirit to lead others.
I ask dedication;
Dedication to my job to do it well...
Dedication to my community to keep it safe.
Give me, Lord, concern;
For all those who trust me...
And compassion for those who need me
And, please, Lord, through it all; be at my side.

Prayer For Policemen

O Almighty God,
Whose great power and eternal
Wisdom embraces the universe,
Watch over all policemen and
Law enforcement officers everywhere.
protect them from harm
In the performance of their duty
To stop crime, robbery,
Riots and violence.
We pray, help them keep our streets
And homes safe, day and night.
We commend them to your loving care
Because their duty is dangerous.
Grant them strength and
Courage in their daily assignments.
Dear God, protect these brave men and women.
Grant them your almighty protection,
Unite them safely with their families after duty has ended.

Amen

Policeman's Prayer

When I start my tour of duty God,
Wherever crime may be,
as I walk the darkened streets alone,
Let me be close to thee.
Please give me understanding with both the young and old.
Let me listen with attention until their story's told.
Let me never make a judgment in a rash or callous way,
but let me hold my patience let each man have his say.
Lord if some dark and dreary night,
I must give my life,
Lord, with your everlasting love
protect my children and my wife.
